Xbox Guild Spotlight: Escape The Ordinary

By Andy (StrumSlinger) | Fri 20 Jan 2017 10:00:00 AM PST

What's the story behind how your guild was founded?

The founding of Escape The Ordinary.

ETO was born on the 12th January 2016, the day I became leader.

The guild was already formed but the original guild leaders left without any notice so being the rank 6, I asked the guys to give me a couple of weeks to try and bring some stability into the guild, but only having a handful of members left and only being GH2, it was a tough ask, thankfully I was given the chance and within a few weeks we had grown quite quickly.

Now ETO has a very special meaning as tragically I lost my wife to cancer almost 4 years ago, Neverwinter itself has helped me through some dark times but my guild now and my guild friends have been amazing and since I took over the guild this year has been made a bit easier. The guild itself is run in memory of my late wife and the name Escape The Ordinary was from a polo shirt my daughters bought me a couple of days after I took leadership and said 'Dad, this is what mum would want us to do' it just felt right that the guild should be renamed this and I'm sure my guild mates will testify the fact that I treat them all as family as I know I'm being looked down from above. All my guild mates know the story and the meaning of the guild and are very proud as am I to be part of something very unique and special.

Last October we all changed our clothes and armour to pink as it was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I was blown away by the support of the guild, a truly special time.

What's the message you want conveyed about your guild?

Since taking over with a handful of guys and GH2, my philosophy has always been to help anyone who wants help and all our welcome in our guild, we have never had any buy ins, no level or gear score requirement, all we have ever asked is to enjoy the game, be active with us and help us grow in any way they can.

With that philosophy in mind, and in just a year, we have a strong core number of players of around 100, and another 30 or so casual players, everyone who is and has been part of our family will be so proud that we are now building GH20, something I thought could happen but would be unlikely.

I have made many friends through my guild and as I said before we are a family and help each other in and out of the game, even though we would probably never meet any of us it feels like we have known each other a very long time. We are based mainly from the UK and USA, but have members from Japan, China, Australia, Norway and many European countries too, plus we have members from South America as well, so I can truly say we are a global guild.

If your guild had a superpower, what would it be?

ETO superpower would be that everything would have a 100% success rate from refining to master crafting, enabling us to make our lower level guys progress quicker than ever before.

Any favorite hang-out spots?

Obviously our well built and designed Stronghold is our main place, many a pig conga moment has taken place around the fountain and beyond along with a dance off at the coffer after we killed all 4 dragons for the first time. We also seem to spend a lot of our time in Castle Never and Fangbreaker Island, one of the rank 6 officers actually rents out Castle Never and lives there on a month to month basis haha.

If your guild was surrounded by a horde of zombies from the Dread Ring, what would you do?

Well ETO being the very friendly type of guild we would of course invite them to join our pig conga or dance party, but if failing that and the zombies wanted to fight, then we would take them on with a good old battle of Stronghold Siege and show them although we are a friendly bunch we are also very powerful.

What's one of the best guild events you've done?

From a guild coffer point of view then The Siege of Neverwinter was the best as the guys worked so hard to bring in those vouchers that were dropping and it made a huge difference to what we needed. The best fun we have is Dragon Karaoke, we run dragons everyday but Saturday and Sunday is the busiest time and we have big parties up and running with music blasting and yes we do have some wannabe singers so Dragon Karaoke was born, imo it's a good job my guys have full time jobs.

If your guild was an animal, what would it be?

It would have to be a Chimera, a mixture of different animals like our personalities and nationalities but put together make a very powerful being indeed.

What do you like most about Storm King's Thunder?

With Storm Thunder and all new content which arrives, the best thing is that it keeps the game alive and restores interest, it's very sad when I lose some members because they feel they have achieved all they can or find other games to play, which is I can understand, so keeping the game fresh with new ideas is the biggest plus for me. Somebody told me there are other games out there, I don't believe them and have yet to find one haha.

Who can players contact if they want either more information or want to join the guild?

We still have some spots left in the guild and we are also a sword guild in the alliance tied with our Helm guild Eviscerate who have been very helpful over the last few months, you can contact myself or my rank 6 officers who are as follows:

I'm the only rank 7 in the guild but I do have 4 amazing rank 6 officers who look after everything if I'm struggling,

The Holy Warrior gamer tag is Mighty Shaker 2 - Holy for short, the other 4 guys are as follows

RR Wufang - RC Aka Don't start yet I need to do a round of prayers and professions

ultimatebodge - Bodge Aka The Welshman, Castle Never Resident Straydawg71 - Stray Aka Call 911 he can't breathe as laughing too much

Taillow500 - Tally, Sandra Bubbles, Bubbles, Gail Aka You need to know something then I'm your girl

These 4 are my backbone along with around 10 rank 5 officers who are just amazing too.

Our website which is owned by us so no selling on of email addresses etc is as follows escapetheordinary810.wordpress.com

Any final comments?

My final comments are just to thank everyone who is and has been involved in ETO, those who know me, know life can be very tricky sometimes, but having a guild like ETO and being able to make friends the way we have is amazing, and if this blog helps just one person out there in any way then ETO has achieved its goal. Thank you for taking the time to read this and if I can be of any help to anyone who has been affected like myself then I will try - Holy
