The Curse of Icewind Dale introduces the Icewind Dale campaign, the PvP campaign, open-world PvP, the Black Ice Shaping profession and the Kessell’s Retreat epic skirmish. In this entry of the Elemental Evil Handbook, we’ll give a short rundown of the frigid Icewind Dale campaign and the zones that come with it.
In order to start the Icewind Dale campaign, you should be level 70 and speak with Sergeant Knox to obtain the “A Chill Wind” quest. This will then take you to Captain Dunmish at the southern part of Protector’s Enclave who will open up Icewind Dale in the overworld map.
Once you arrive at Icewind Dale, you’ll need to speak with Alden Lowell and introduce yourself to the inhabitants of Caer-Konig, the main hub for your adventures in Icewind Dale. In order to progress into the actual zones, you’ll also need to pledge your allegiance to one of two factions: Ten-Towns or the Arcane Brotherhood. This is in order to partake in open-world PvP if you so choose, which Icewind Dale introduces.
The Icewind Dale campaign is more similar to Sharandar in that you need to complete a certain amount of quests to obtain Caer-Konig Reputation, which will unlock various new tasks as you go along. At first, you’ll only have access to Icewind Pass, a massive valley covered in snow. Once you obtain enough Caer-Konig reputation, Dwarven Valley is unlocked, which resembles a frozen mine.
You’ll encounter polar bears, winter wolves, barbarians, trolls and remorhazs among other beastly creatures in your travels throughout Icewind Dale. Once you progress far enough into the Icewind Dale campaign, you’ll unlock the epic skirmish Kessell’s Retreat where you’ll face Akar Kessell, a wight who would love to see the world go mad.
The Curse of Icewind Dale is set to launch with Elemental Evil in September! Just don’t go mad before then. You’ll only be empowering Kessell.
