Personal Log, Captain James Wells, U.S.S. Huxley

Star Trek Online STO MMORPG F2P Sc-Fi MMO game

We are continuing our planetary survey in the Tau Dewa Sector Block.

The Huxley is close enough to Klingon space that we have to stay alert. Thought we caught a glimpse of a Bird-of-Prey wing at 2230 hours. Went to yellow alert and used a tachyon field to try to pinpoint their location – nothing. Ensign Novot picked up a warp trail, but we lost it near the Narendra system.

If the Klingons were following us, they weren’t looking for a fight.

Back to the planetary survey. In the public record, this is a simple scientific mission. In fact, it is much more. We’re helping the Romulans look for a new homeworld.

D’Tan is gathering followers. More and more Romulans appear to be disgusted by the selfishness and infighting among the senators. Fighting in Sela’s capital goes unchecked and everyday more blood is spilled. None of it changes anything.

The Unification movement is offering something different, and Romulans are responding. I have my doubts as to whether they can reach their ultimate goal of reuniting with the Vulcans – their cultures are just too divergent at this point.

But establishing a new world for the Romulans, a reset for their relationships with other species … that I think is possible. It won’t be easy, but like my grandmother used to say, nothing worth doing ever is.

They’ve already made a start with the Remans. In exchange for a place on the new world and full representation in any government that may result, Obisek and his fleet will support the movement. Having the strength of the Remans should go a long way toward making D’Tan and his people more than an easily-dismissed fringe group. They are a growing power.

Starfleet is keeping our involvement quiet for now, but I have a Romulan adviser here on the Huxley helping with the survey. Subcommander Mivek tends to keep to herself, but she has a keen mind and is completely dedicated to the future of her people. I value her input.

We’ve already considered and rejected more than a dozen worlds. We’re looking for an uninhabited M-class world with sufficient resources to support a growing population. Tau Dewa was chosen because it is close to Romulan space, but removed enough to keep the new world out of the internal conflicts that have split the empire since the disappearance of Sela.

I’m beginning to understand some of the trials that the Romulans went through after the Sundering. Our requirements are great, but our options are few.

The majority of the settlers will be civilians, so we cannot expect them all to be prepared for the dangers of living on an uncivilized world. That being said, there are few Romulans who haven’t suffered hardship and depravation in the decades since Romulus was lost. They are survivors.

Looking out the window in my quarters, I can see hundreds of stars. One of them has what we seek. We’ll keep looking until we find it.
