Neverwinter

Player Spotlight: Lazaroth Dae'mon

By Akromatik | Tue 24 Feb 2015 10:00:00 AM PST

The Neverwinter community is incredibly dedicated and we see it come out every day whether it’s in-game, on livestreams, or on our forums. We decided that it’s about time we highlight some of our incredibly dedicated community members and get to know them a little better.

For this spotlight, we’re interviewing Lazaroth Dae'mon, an avid PvP and PvE player from Venezuela who loves all things Neverwinter and D&D-related!

Tell us a little about yourself and your character.

Hi! I would like to send my warmest greetings from Venezuela to everyone. I've been in the amazing world of games for almost two decades, since the very first day I took a NES controller I knew that my game addiction had started. Later, I was able to get my hands on a computer and it immediately became my favorite gaming station. "Lazaroth" was the name that I started to use when I joined my first MMORPG Mu Online: Continent of Legend. For me, it's a name related to a Dark Knight or Dark Lord and has some kind of evil meaning and that's the context in which I like to play my characters. When I started to play Neverwinter 17 months ago, I wanted to try something different, so my first character was a Devoted Cleric "Lazael". After a while, I started to play a Great Weapon Fighter named "Lazalia". During that time, I had a more serious focus about progression and min-maxing so I played it until I had nothing else to achieve with that character. Unfortunately, it wasn't dark enough for my taste, but by a stroke of luck, the Warlock joined the group of playable classes and I began to play it. Naming him “Lazaroth Dae'mon”, I achieved the same level of progress that I had with my previous character.

What was the main reason you decided to start playing Neverwinter?

I've always been a fan of RPG games, something that started with the Final Fantasy series on PlayStation. When I switched to PC, among the first games that I played were Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Icewind Dale II. Both games were based on D&D and I loved them immediately. Having this passion for D&D-based games and knowing that Neverwinter would have the same feel, but as a MMORPG, I decided to try it out and ended up getting hooked. It's like playing my old games with better graphics and new challenges. It has been a very nice experience for me so far.

What’s your favorite game mode? Why?

I'm a fan of both PvE and PvP. Firstly PvE because I enjoy reading lore, doing quests and slaying foes, looking forward to achieve a goal and getting a reward for doing so. Regarding PvP, I like it when there's a fair and fast-paced environment similar to First Person Shooter games.

What’s your favorite in-game event? Why?

My favorite would be the Midsummer Festival, seeing my guildmates running behind a pig or a chicken trying to catch them or fighting each other during the Water Fight while we were in Raidcall laughing a lot and having so much fun together. It showed us the essence of the MMO games, which is gathering friends, sharing laughs, and having some good moments together.

What’s your favorite in-game item? Why?

Among the all vast quantity of items that I own, my favorite is the Skeleton Steed because it fits the evil nature of my character and for what it represents: a terrifying steed created by Belial, the lord of the Fourth Hell. In my popinion, if it could be darker and with some details fixed, it would be awesome!

We're all gamers so we know you don't just play Neverwinter. When you're not adventuring in the Forgotten Realms, what games do you play?

Well, you don't get Astral Diamonds from playing other games, so I have to be focused only in Neverwinter! lol. Actually, I like to play some offline games when I want to clear my mind of everything related to online gaming. A few titles: Rome Total War II, Crysis 3, Metro 2033 Last Light, Dying Light among others.

There are a lot of fans of Neverwinter who spend their free time playing the D&D in a non-digital space. How long have you been playing D&D and what is your most memorable moment?

As I mentioned before, my first steps into the universe of D&D were when I started to play Baldur's Gates and Icewind Dale on my PC, unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to play it with pen and paper yet, but I would love to do it.

With Module 6: Elemental Evil just around the corner, there's a lot to be excited about! What are you looking forward to most?

Elemental Evil is going to be a very interesting module because it’s not just an expansion as we have already seen with previous mods, it comes with intense changes to the playability. The changes to Life Steal are supposed to have us play in a completely different way than we have been doing so far which in my opinion is positive. In theory, there should be not more rushing through the content with tons of DPS leaving classes weaker in damage out of the parties. Crowd control abilities + damage mitigation + healing should be much more necessary now. In this way, players can play as they really want fulfilling their roles and not as they are forced to, due to the circumstances. Another interesting aspect is the new level cap and the stat changes that force us to focus on specific stats in order to develop our character as much as possible, meaning that we might see different builds. I think this variety is something that is really good. Besides this, I'm always excited about the new items, specifically Mounts and Companions because I'm huge fan of collecting them.

If you got the chance to decide what diretion to move Neverwinter in, what would want to see in future Modules?

There are so many things that I would love to see in the game but if I have to choose I would say: 1) A Campaign based in the effort of the guild members where they have to collect a certain amount of resources, glory (transform glory into an item that can be donated), gold, and even Astral Diamonds so the Guild Leader can unlock some small benefits/bonuses which would work for either PvE or PvP. The players would feel a stronger bound with their guild and achieving a goal as a collective would be very interesting. 2) As gamers, we are very creative people and are very interactive. Neverwinter offers us a lot of things that we would like to test and enjoy like the new classes that they release with modules. Unfortunately, due to the amount of time and resources that we have to invest in our character, it is very restrictive forcing us to enjoy the game either with an older character that is better geared or a new one that will take us again more time and resources to get to a similar level. As a player I would be more interested in investing in the game if I'm allowed to move my rare items between my characters. If I'm fully geared and I know how long it took me to get to that level of progress I already know what it would cost to do it with another character, so I wouldn’t want to do it again. 3) Some events for collectors or any kind of reward according to the Total Collection Score.

Dungeons & Dragons and Neverwinter is all about having fun in a group setting. We want you to take some time and give a shout out to all your friends who you spend time with in-game.

My shout out is for everyone in the guild I'm running along with my officers "Rebelión Latina", 14 months playing together, going through good and bad moments but keeping a great sense of humor with tons of jokes. Thanks to all those guys that make our days much more bearable and happy for all of us. A special salute to Shaera@iolyn, Chica Polar@chicapolar, Mandrake@smokemk6, Drakan@neyib, Aldebaran@killernore, XxEtherionxX@xxetherionxx1, Vivala@pollarina among other very good friends.

Are there any gaming tips that you might be able to share with new players who might be playing Neverwinter for the very first time?

If you are new, you will probably be lost and with many questions in your mind. The best thing that you can do is joining a guild where the players have the same time zone, language and a very good social environment. Don't take random invitations, talk with people and explain that you are new and need some guidance, but remember that they are also playing, so try to be specific and brief with your questions. Once you have a bit more of knowledge about the game, do the same with others who are in the same situation than you were. Don't be afraid of asking. There is no such thing as a stupid question if it's sincere. Better to ask and risk appearing foolish than to continue on your way and make a mistake.

Don't forget to check out the class forums, there are many players with a lot of knowledge about almost everything related to the game who will be glad to assist you if you have any doubts or questions.

Thanks for taking time to answer some questions and to allow us to get to know you a little more. As always we thank you for your dedication to Neverwinter and the hard work you put in leading Team Fencebane and getting the word out about fun comminity happenings! We can’t wait to see you in-game!
