“Take the most arrogant, narcissistic person you know and multiply that by ten…that’s what blue dragons are like.
Blue dragons are all about big entrances and even bigger egos. Out of all the chromatic dragons, they are the ones most likely to attack other dragons over territory disputes. Choosing to make their homes in regions where the ground is soft and storms are frequent, blues favor coastal areas or mountainous regions near violent seas. While many dragons might be balked by the idea of flying during a violent thunderstorm, blues relish the opportunity. In fact, blue dragons are most at peace when they can hear the claps of thunder emanating through their lairs. The dwellings of blues are often lavishly decorated, as they tend to favor visually-appealing treasures. Gems are among their absolute favorite treasures to add to their hordes, but they will make do with anything flashy that communicates their superiority.
Unlike black or white dragons, blue dragons can co-exist somewhat peacefully with neighboring communities…provided their egos are satisfied regularly. This can take the form of a neighboring tribe offering tributes to the dragon or performing other acts of contrition that satisfy the dragons need for dominance. This kind of relationship can come in especially handy when the dragon feeds, as their favorite prey happens to be large herd animals ‘lightly kissed’ by their lightening.
Blue dragons almost always favor aerial combat. Their flexible wings and dexterous bodies make them masters of mid-air combat. Seeing a blue dragon use their lightning breath ability as they zip through the air is both an awe and terror-inspiring experience. On the rare occasion that they do fight on the ground, they use their powerful claws to burrow underground and surprise their prey from below.
The blue dragons currently making their home on the Sword Coast are Fulminorax and Venfithar. The former has allied with the lich Valindra Shadowmantle while the latter is cooperating with the Cult of the Dragon. Both pack quite a charge and are to be approached with caution.
Blues may be famous for their egos and their need for power, but few dragons can even begin to compare to the unbridled fury of a red dragon…”
