You may remember me as ZeroniusRex, one of the producers on Star Trek Online.
When we first launched Star Trek Online in 2010, we had no idea how big it would grow. We had high hopes, of course, and it has been great to watch those hopes be achieved, even exceeded. Back then I was in QA, one of the grunts in sector 7G. As a tester I spent a lot of time in the game—I did one of the early full playthroughs, as an Engi in a cruiser. As a producer, I play more now, though. And, like some of my fellow players, I have longed for those halcyon days of yore.
There comes a time for every MMO that becomes popular and changes over time, when it goes back how it was. For us, that time is now. After over 5 years and countless updates, Holodeck is going to be retired. The old girl has had a good run, but she’s tired, and it’s time to begin again.
We’re pleased to announce the rebirth of STO on Redshirt! But fear not—we’ve heard your requests, and we’re here to fulfill them. Starting today, we will all start anew, together. The Redshirt server will be wiped clean, and will return with the same build we had when the game launched. For those of you clamoring for a return to simpler times, welcome back. And for those of you who never got to experience that fresh Star Trek Online experience, welcome aboard.
As Zephram Cochrane once said, “That’ll do, pig. That’ll do.”
