Chabot Space and Science Center, in Oakland, California, is the latest stop in the worldwide tour of the “Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years.” It’s a new traveling art exhibit created to commemorate Star Trek’s 50th anniversary,  and it features Star Trek-inspired works by 50 artists from 10 countries around the globe, including one by Leonard Nimoy, the franchise’s iconic Spock and renowned photographer. The exhibit includes original 2D and 3D pieces by the artists, who selected a variety of media — illustrations, photographs, sculptures, paintings, graphics, and more — to express their love of the franchise and the inspiration gained from it.

The Starships of Star Trek

 "The Other Main Characters"

For some fans, their favorite character is not Kirk, Sisko or Janeway, but the Enterprise, the Defiant or Voyager. The starships of Star Trek have become heroes in their own right, soaring across the screen as icons of technological optimism, scientific curiosity, and a triumph of human will. Join Thomas Marrone, lead Starship Artist of Star Trek Online, to discuss the history of Star Trek starships, what makes these starships memorable, and what goes into designing a new ship for the Star Trek Universe.
